Willem and I went down to swim at the pond. The weather is quite unstable now, chilly nights, warm days. The pond was cold when I dove into it, but as I swam, I detected the top two feet were warm while beneath it was much colder. I went down to the pond as it was hot enough that I needed to cool myself down. The water was cool with no warm layer on the top. I floated on my back so the water could cool off my head. The beaver hadn't cut anymore cattails off overnight ( Read more... )

Ignoring the fact that there was a heat warning (about 90F) out there, I wrote daylily names on short stakes and hammered them into the ground at the back of each of the flowering daylilies that I could identify. I got up at 6 or so and went down to the stream with cameras in hand. I watched the indigo buntings and was able to film them for quite awhile as they flitted from cedar to basswood to the wires to the bushes and around again. It was nice to see them ( Read more... )
